Abdominal pain is a common reason for children to present to the emergency department. It may be due to abdominal or extra-abdominal causes and although only a small percentage of these children will have a surgical cause to their pain it is important to consider the possibility as early treatment prevents complications and morbidity.

This case follows the diagnosis and treatment of a child presenting with acute abdominal pain to a rural emergency department.
