A week in Whyalla...

Author(s):

Peter Devitt
Professorial Surgical Unit
Royal Adelaide Hospital

Overview:

The following MCQs are based on the author's recent experiences of one of his trips in his capacity of helping to provide a rural surgical service. For those not familiar with South Australian geography, Whyalla is a seaport on the east coast of the Eyre Peninsula, serving a catchment area of about 22,000 people.  It is the third largest town in the State and like many outback towns, has difficulty in attracting professionals on a full-time basis. Hence the fly-in fly-out service provided by surgeons (and other specialists) to these regions.
