Overview:

Frank haematuria is a relatively common clinical problem, occurring with a prevalence of some 2.5% in the general population. These patients often cause a diagnostic dilemma for the general practitioner, and whether temporary or asymptomatic, gross haematuria should always prompt further investigation. There are many causes of haematuria and this case will focus on one of the important underlying disease processes.
